Policy Analytics Research Program: Research Proposal

The Policy Analytics Research program was created to help cultivate research at the intersection of the social sciences, technology, and public policy. The program matches talented students in technology or computational fields with professors that are conducting research projects in the social sciences. We are seeking research proposals from professors in the social sciences who need tech-heavy research assistance.

We are accepting research proposals for the 2023 Fall semester through June 1, 2023. To learn more about the program, check out some of these frequently asked questions.     • 10 hours of research assistance from a highly talented, tech-savvy graduate student.

    • Help from the Policy Analytics Team on a variety of technical hurdles for your project.

    • Access to a growing network of students, professors, and organizations that are interested in public policy research and technology.

    • June 1st, 2023 - research proposal application deadline for the Fall 2023 semester.

    • June 16th, 2023 - final decisions are made for research projects for the Fall 2023 semester.

    • August 28th and December 16th, 2023 - the start and end dates of the Fall 2023 research semester.

  • A team member will reach out each applicant within a couple of weeks of applying. The research proposal may be accepted, outright rejected (if the research project is not a good fit for the program), or the professor may be asked to submit a revised proposal.

  • Students participating in the Policy Analytics Research Program have a variety of technology related skills. Including but not limited to:

    • Python

    • SQL

    • Web Scraping

    • Database Creation and Management

    • Data Wrangling

    • Machine Learning

    • Natural Language Processing

    • AWS and Other Cloud Platforms

    • Providing the student with at least 10 hours of work per week for the semester that advances the assigned research project.

    • Active communication with the student about the research project.

    • Supplying the student with any data or technology that is not freely available.

  • The program team strives to match professors and students that have similar research goals and are interested in the same research topics. The actual matching process will be done by the program team.
